Trans Resistance MA Supports TCNE Boycott

To the New England Transgender Community and Allies,

Trans Resistance MA stands in full solidarity with HELP by AMG and Chastity Bowick’s Consulting Company in their decision to boycott TCNE’s First Event 2025. This action is not taken lightly, as we recognize First Event has been a valuable resource for many. However, it is imperative that we address the systemic inequities and lack of true representation that continue to harm the very community this conference claims to serve.

The recent statements from TCNE leadership, which dismissed concerns, are emblematic of the deeper issues at hand. These remarks are tone-deaf and fail to acknowledge the harm caused to marginalized members of our community, particularly the disabled population and Black and Brown transgender individuals. If we truly want a space that uplifts and unites us all, we must move past performative actions and excuses to embrace intentional and systemic change.

Our demands of TCNE and First Event are clear and actionable:

  1. Invest in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Training

    • Partner with BIPOC-owned consulting firms.

    • Provide transparent progress updates to the community.

  2. Equitable Representation

    • Ensure meaningful paid opportunities for all trans people–especially transmasculine people, trans men, nonbinary people, and intersex individuals, who have been left out of this programming in the past–in leadership and programming.

  3. Improved Community Spaces

    • Dedicate resources to enhancing the BIPOC spaces and sensory-friendly rooms, making them welcoming and interactive for all.

  4. Venue Accessibility

    • Seek cost-effective, safe, and accessible venues with input from the community.

  5. Public Accountability

    • Acknowledge past harm and commit to actionable steps to regain community trust.

We believe that a conference as impactful as First Event can—and must—serve the entirety of the New England transgender community, not just a privileged few. By addressing these concerns with urgency and authenticity, TCNE has the opportunity to create a truly inclusive and transformative event.

This boycott is not a rejection of the work that has been done but a call for accountability and collaboration. Together, we can build a future where all transgender voices are seen, valued, and celebrated.

We urge all community members, organizations, and allies to stand with us in solidarity by supporting this boycott. Let’s work together to shape a space that reflects and uplifts every facet of our diverse community.

In solidarity and pursuit of equity,

Trans Resistance MA
